Frequently asked questions
You can book in with me via email on katieusherpsychology@gmail.com . I sometimes have a small waiting list but will endeavour to book your assessment sessions in as soon as I can.
If after the 15 minute free consultation, you have decided that you want to work with myself and I feel I’m the right person to support you, we will agree a 4 session assessment block where we will hold space to gather as much information about your current context, history and relevant factors to try and form a joint understanding of the issues. Then we can think about an appropriate onward therapeutic plan. These initial assessment sessions will be at your pace and can be extended is necessary and at the end of these we will discuss your wishes and goals of our work together and how you would like to see change and things to be different in your life.
As with all areas of life, working out if working with a Clinical Psychologist is the right approach and way of working for you requires an understanding of what we are and how we work. Clinical Psychologists have to go through extensive training through educational routes and are skilled and qualified in multiple evidence based approaches that we can draw on to support our clients. We have to undertake PHD level research and there’s a solid academic and experiential part of the course. In the NHS we tend to hold positions in services and teams that require strong leadership skills. Other talking therapies and holistic therapists exist and for many people, are another very credible and useful source of support.
I tend to be very inclusive of a diverse range of presenting issues and difficulties but some are not within my scope of expertise and would be better supported through specialist or NHS services such as people with cognitive or neurological conditions, people acutely psychotic or people with severe and chronic eating disorders compromising their physical health.
